Structure of the Department of Physiotherapy

The employees of the Department of Physiotherapy conduct didactic classes with students from the Faculty of Health Sciences in the following majors:

      1. Physiotherapy - full-time and part-time long-cycle master degree studies

The teaching activities are in the form of both theoretical and practical classes, which are conducted in healthcare facilities.
 
Basic tasks of the Department of Physiotherapy are:

  1. Educating students to prepare them for work as physiotherapists
  2. Conducting elective courses for students at Wroclaw Medical University
  3. Conducting scientific research and development works
  4. Educating and promoting medical staff
  5. Supervising the student scientific club
  6. Education to acquire and supplement knowledge
  7. Acting for the benefit of local communities
  8. Preparing students to deliver services and care for patients of different ages, health conditions and care for the families of the patients
  9. Identification of the needs of patients and their families for the purposes of: health promotion, prevention, medical, professional and social rehabilitation, education
  10. Evaluation of the quality of services and care provided to patients in the teaching and working environment, as well as patients and their families in the living environment

Three main research areas

  1. Physiotherapy in difficult medical problems:
  • application of physiotherapeutic methods in the treatment of patients after stroke
  • research works on lower limb amputations, the effectiveness of prostheses, the possibility of returning a person after an amputation to normal life
  • research issues related to the diagnosis and physiotherapy in the treatment of urinary incontinence (UI) in women and men
  • works on primitive reflexes in children
  1. The history of medicine, the development of sanatorium treatment in the former south-eastern and north-eastern borderlands of the Second Polish Republic and health resort medicine - radon therapy in a health resort
  2. Civilisation diseases, medical and social problems
  • Objective assessment of functional capacity in the context of the occurrence of musculoskeletal disorders in various groups of patients and healthcare sector

If you want to learn, learn by doing!
On 30 November 2022, as part of the implementation of the course Physical Medicine 1 - Fundamentals of Physical Therapy, first-year Physiotherapy students at the Faculty of Health Sciences will have the opportunity to empirically explore thermotherapy.

As part of cooperation with the medical centre Creator Sp z o.o. in Wrocław, students benefit from systemic cryotherapy, i.e. cold therapy at temperatures ranging from -110 to -160 degrees Celsius, used in the treatment of both sick and healthy people. The procedure in the cryogenic chamber lasts up to 3 minutes.

Dear Students,
Your great initiative, expressed in the desire for continuous development and intensified education (in this case in the field of human anatomy) has met with great understanding and acceptance of the lecturers at the Division of Anatomy at Wroclaw Medical University.
Therefore, we are pleased to announce that a scientific club for Physiotherapy students will be established at the Division of Anatomy at Wroclaw Medical University.
The club supervisor will be a physiotherapist and employee of the Division of Anatomy, Anna Rohan-Fugiel, PhD - a lecturer with many years of experience.
