Main research areas:

  1. Polish medical culture, Polish school of philosophy of medicine.
  2. Effective communication between health care workers and patients and care of chronically ill patients.
  3. Perception and communication of risks associated with medical therapy.
  4. Medicine during the Holocaust.
  5. Medical ethics, scientific research ethics, cultural bioethics.

In addition to the research directions being pursued, ZHNL staff members conduct extensive teaching activities - including for ED and Erasmus students - in which students learn the basics of Medical Psychology with elements of patient communication, Sociology in Medicine, Medical Ethics and History of Medicine.

Kamila Uzarczyk,PhD a member of the 2021 appointed ‘The Lancet Commission on Medicine and the Holocaust: Historical Evidence, Implications for Today, Teaching for Tomorrow’.

The result of the Commission's work is the publication of a report (The Lancet, vol. 402, no. 10415, Nov 18-24, 2023, pp. 1805-1940) considering the state of research, implications in the context of the contemporary debate on medical ethics, and a proposal for a model for teaching medical students about these issues.
