Main research areas:

HIV and AIDS infections:
Epidemiology, pathogenesis, prevention, clinic, diagnosis and treatment of HIV and AIDS infection:
The team of the Clinical Department collaborates with centres in Europe and the USA on the development of standards for antiretroviral treatment and other important trends in the HIV/AIDS epidemic, including co-morbidities, the impact of HIV on specific organs and systems, the efficacy and side effects of antiretroviral treatment.
- Parasitic infections in people living with HIV
- Assessment of metabolic disorders during antiretroviral therapy using selected markers.
- An important issue under investigation is the use and effectiveness of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PreP) in people at risk of HIV infection.

Sexually transmitted infections:
Prevention, diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, in particular syphilis, chlamydiosis and gonorrhoea, also for people living with HIV and as part of PrEP.

COVID-19:
- epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2 infection in HIV-infected persons
- assessment of humoral and cellular response and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccination and adverse effects in the Lower Silesian population and in HIV-infected patients, using different types of Covid-19 vaccines
- COVID-19 (epidemiology, clinical picture, diagnosis, post-COVID and long COVID syndrome)
