Essay Contest and Neurology Congress

Every year, the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) holds a student essay contest to learn about the motivation of the next generation of future neurologists. In an open essay prompt "Why neurology?" students can participate and share their personal relationship with the field.

This year, one of our own, English-division students, Melissa Szmukala is one of the prestigious winners of the essay contest. With her essay about neurology and global health, she is one of five winners from all over the world. As a reward, Melissa received a personal invite to the EAN Congress 2024 in Helsinki, Finland to present her essay at the congress, as well as a 300€ travel grant and the publication of the essay in the European Journal of Neurology.

Melissa shares her experience from the conference: "Attending such a large, professional conference as a student was a very educational and insightful experience! I have met and networked with professors from all over the world, learned about the newest research in all fields of the neurological spectrum and enjoyed the fresh Finnish air! With student-tailored events and the EAN  student-taskforce always available, I would recommend the next EAN 2025 congress to anyone, who is interested!"
