The best in Poland in the Clinical & Health category

In the ranking of THE WUR 2024 by Subject, the Medical University of Wroclaw achieved the best result in Poland in the Clinical and Health category. Overall in this ranking, UMW was ranked in the 401-500 range, which included only two Polish universities. Thus, the Wroclaw medical university ex aequo with Jagiellonian University took the first place among all universities in Poland.

In the Clinical and Health (medical and health sciences) category, which evaluated 1,059 universities from around the world, 12 universities from Poland were ranked, including eight medical universities. UMW maintained its last year's leading position in this area, again taking first place, and ahead of the Medical University of Bialystok, which took second place (in the 601-800 range) and the Medical University of Gdansk, which is in third place.

- This is another success for the team of many people working at our university," says the rector of the Medical University of Wroclaw, Prof. Piotr Ponikowski. - THE WUR ranking evaluates universities based on objective, measurable indicators and is one of the most prestigious lists of its kind in the world. So we have hard evidence of our high position in the country. For obvious reasons, the Clinical and Health category for the medical school is of particular importance. To be ranked first in this category in Poland is a reason for satisfaction, but most of all it confirms the rightness of the chosen direction. We aspire to the status of a research university, and we have grounds for this, as evidenced by the appreciation once again of the quality of research conducted at UMW. The ranking of THE WUR 2024 by Subject shows that in this respect we are the best in the country, taking into account all the universities evaluated. Confirmation of the scientific level of our researchers is also provided by the ELSEVIER Research Impact Leaders Awards 2023 in the Medical Sciences category, received a few days ago. This award also testifies to the high quality of scientific research and its internationalization.

The World University Rankings by Subject, prepared by Times Higher Education magazine , evaluates the level of universities from around the world. In THE WUR 2024, published a few weeks ago, only 39 Polish universities were ranked, and UMW proved to be the best among the country's medical universities. The compilation of the World University Rankings by Subject 2024 deals with a detailed assessment, divided into eleven areas. These are: arts and humanities (Arts and Humanities), management sciences and economics (Business and Economics), medical and health sciences (Clinical and Health), computer science (Computer science), pedagogy (Education), engineering sciences (Engineering), legal sciences (Law), life sciences (Life sciences), physical sciences (Physical sciences), psychology (Psychology) and social sciences (Social sciences).

Five indicators are considered in the ranking evaluation: education (Teaching), research environment (Research Environment), research quality (Research Quality), cooperation with business (Industry) and internationalization (International Outlook). Each of them had a different percentage of the university's final grade. The most significant of these, having the greatest impact on the ranking position, was Research Quality. In this respect, UMW ranked first among all universities in Poland. Once again, UMW's position in didactics is confirmed: this is an indicator in which UMW is ahead of all Polish medical universities.
