ED's 20th Anniversary

English Division celebrated twenty years of activity at the Medical University of Wroclaw. The solemn meeting at the John Paul II Auditorium was attended by foreign students, Medical University authorities, lecturers and invited representatives of Wroclaw universities.

UMW Rector Professor Piotr Ponikowski in his speech brought that twenty years is already a serious age and a good time for some summaries, as well as a look into the future. - Dear students, I would like to tell you about passion, courage and sacrifice by quoting the story of an outstanding physicist - Robert Oppenheimer, which you may know from the cinema, he said. - Be so courageous and never give up. The time of study is the best time to make friendships also such for life. Thank you for choosing Wroclaw, our university and deciding to spend the most beautiful years of your life here. Keep in mind the words of Seneca, life is like a novel no matter how long it is, but how good it is," said Prof. Piotr Ponikowski, Rector of UMW.

Associate Dean for English Language Education, Dr. Katarzyna Neubauer, Prof. UMW read a special message to foreign students from our Nobel Prize winner Olga Tokarczuk.

- The decision to study abroad always demonstrates the courage and openness of young people that we value so much in the university community. English Division is often about different points of view and always an opportunity to teach others and teach oneself," said Prof. Neubauer.

Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Andrzej Hendrich brought everyone up to date on the history of the establishment of the English Division at UMW, going back to 2003 when the decision was made to establish a medical faculty in English.

About 130 students from more than 20 countries around the world are admitted each year to the medical faculty in English. Young people who have come to study in Wroclaw come from Nigeria, Tunisia, USA, Sweden, Algeria, Ukraine, Cyprus, Philippines, Chile, Slovakia, Moldova, Taiwan, Jordan, Sudan, Arab Emirates, Turkey, Syria, India, Pakistan, Myanmar, Germany, Norway, Seychelles, Ireland, United Kingdom, Egypt, Iran and Canada.
