President met with students

Walbrzych Mayor Dr. Roman Szełemej visited the students of the Walbrzych branch of the Wroclaw Medical University. He also took part in anatomy classes. The medical students had an opportunity for an open discussion with the city's mayor.

 - I would like to find out what we can do to make your studies and, I deeply believe, also your life and work in Walbrzych better, more interesting and comfortable," Dr. Roman Szełemej, president of Walbrzych, asked first-year medical students during the meeting. - To say that I, as the president and a doctor, cared about you being here and studying is like saying nothing. The rector of the UMW, Professor Piotr Ponikowski, successfully created a branch of the Medical University here. And for me, the establishment of a medical faculty in Walbrzych is of fundamental importance for the development of this most beautiful region in Poland, because it is an absolutely unique place," said Dr. Roman Szełemej.

- If you have problems in the field of housing that we could solve please let me know, if I can help in an emergency situation, I will help," he said.

Walbrzych hospitals will educate future medics

A key element in the training of doctors is practical classes. In the case of the Walbrzych branch, access to medical facilities will not be a problem. Students can attend classes under the guidance of doctors at hospitals in Walbrzych, among others.

There is a shortage of 50,000 doctors in Poland. Staffing shortages in local and regional hospitals and a variety of medical facilities are so significant that they are of concern to all local government officials in the Walbrzych region.

- Walbrzych's hospitals are modern, well-equipped and provide a good base for training medics, the mayor stressed. - We are trying to attract doctors, nurses, specialists in various medical fields to Walbrzych, and we offer communal housing for those who decide to take up their profession in Walbrzych, he assured.

At the end of the meeting, President Szełemej took part in an anatomy lesson taught by Dr. Zygmunt Domagała of the UMW Department of Correct Anatomy.
