Prof. Piotr Ponikowski re-elected rector
Election made. For the 2024-2028 term, Prof. Piotr Ponikowski will again be the rector of the Wroclaw University of Medical Sciences. He was the only candidate.
During his first term as president-elect, Wroclaw Medical University rose in international rankings, being the highest ranked Polish medical university. It was a challenging term - Prof. Ponikowski managed during a pandemic, the crisis in Ukraine and economic problems. During this time, the impulse to discuss the quality of education in the medical profession flowed from the Wroclaw university, and the project to establish a branch in Walbrzych was successfully implemented - the proposal was one of the few to receive a positive opinion from the Polish Accreditation Commission. In the latest evaluation, the Medical University of Wroclaw received an A grade in all disciplines submitted for evaluation. It has also systematically developed its clinical base - launching the Robotics Center at the University Clinical Hospital and obtaining nearly half a billion zlotys for investment in the Center for Pediatrics and the Adult Hematooncology Center.
- What words would I use to describe our university and our hospital in the coming years? As a place that creates opportunities for development, inspires, at the same time operates efficiently, friendly and gives us all a sense of security," stressed Prof. Piotr Ponikowski in his election presentation. He spoke a lot about innovation and also investments, announcing the creation of a Clinical Didactics Center on Borowska Street or a Medical Examination Center in the so-called old campus. He also pointed out the need to modify the strategy of the University Clinical Hospital to make it even more responsive to the key challenges of the health care system.
On February 2, electors endorsed the program presented, granting the rector a strong mandate of confidence.
Prof. Piotr Ponikowski is a graduate of the Medical University of Wroclaw, and was a senator and Vice-Rector for Science of his Alma Mater.
