Flood threat in Wrocław

In response to the current flood situation in Wrocław, staff members, students, and volunteers have recently worked to secure the campuses of the Medical University against the approaching flood wave. Thousands of sandbags have been laid, and university property has been relocated to higher floors of the buildings.

The mobilization continues, with the crisis management team continuously monitoring the situation and coordinating further actions in line with the current flood alert in Wrocław.

The first site secured was the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the Medical University of Wrocław at Krakowska Street. Simultaneously, sandbags were laid at Wojciech z Brudzewa Street. Thanks to the involvement of many individuals, these locations have been prepared for the flood in the best possible way.

Staff also worked to protect the property and documentation of units located in basements and ground floors of the so-called "old campus". Despite the summer break, more than 60 students volunteered to help. The coordination of volunteers is managed by Franciszek Kędzierski, chairman of the UMW organization "Together We Can Do More."

The Medical University of Wrocław is also supporting the army. We have accommodated 256 soldiers, providing them with warm meals. The soldiers are staying in our dormitories, which are currently vacant due to the holiday period. We have also made the sports hall available for soldiers to sleep in.

So far, we have not received any reports of employees or students being affected by the flood. To organize assistance, we need information about the types of support required by those affected. Please send such information to: katarzyna.sudnik@umw.edu.pl. We also remind you that there is an option to apply for support from the company’s social benefits fund (e.g., in the form of a non-repayable grant or a low-interest housing loan). Those interested in such support are asked to contact the social worker directly via email: socjalny@umw.edu.pl or by phone: +48 71 784 1328, +48 71 784 1037
