The Department of Oral Pathology conducts research related mainly to diseases of the mucous membrane. They concern the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of these lesions.
In 2017, the Molecular Research Laboratory was established within the structure of the Department of Oral Pathology. The person responsible for conducting research in the Laboratory is Irena Duś-Ilnicka, MD, PhD – a laboratory diagnostician.
The Laboratory has a large research potential for scientific purposes, related to the performance of determinations in the field of genetics using the latest methods of molecular biology, including PCR techniques, testing of genetic polymorphisms, analysis of the method of DNA isolation from samples taken, as well as protein electrophoresis.
The leading research topics include the epidemiology and frequency of pathological and developmental changes on the oral mucosa, including lichen planus and lichenoid changes in the oral cavity, the connection between Covid-19 infection and the condition of the oral cavity, assessment of the condition of the stomatognathic system in terms of the patient's mental state, periodontal disease in connection with rheumatic disease.
The Department of Oral Pathology conducts classes for Polish and English-speaking students from the year II to the year V of studies.
