2024 Call for Applications to MSCA4Ukraine
Eligible host organisations are invited to apply to the MSCA4Ukraine scheme for fellowships to host displaced researchers from Ukraine. The scheme’s Terms of Reference for Applicants 2024, including eligibility criteria for researchers and host organisations, application requirements, and application documents’ templates, have now been published on the MSCA4Ukraine website at https://sareurope.eu/msca4ukraine/information-for-applicants/.
Applications must be submitted by host organisations on behalf of named researchers from Ukraine via an online portal, which will open on 5th August 2024. The link to the portal will be available on the MSCA4Ukraine website. Once the portal opens, applications will be checked for eligibility and completeness and evaluated by external experts. The portal will close on 5th September 2024 at 23.59h, and no applications can be submitted via the portal after that time. This call is expected to lead to the award of around 50 doctoral and post-doctoral fellowships.
Key information (for full information, please refer to the Terms of Reference for Applicants):

Applicant: Applications must be submitted by prospective host organisations on behalf of displaced researcher(s) from Ukraine (candidate(s)). Host organisations can be academic or non-academic organisations in any EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country. Organisations located in Ukraine are not eligible to apply as primary host organisations but can host researchers during a secondment arrangement.

Candidates: either postdoctoral researchers or researchers who, on or after 24 February 2022, were enrolled as doctoral candidates at a higher educational institution in Ukraine, and who have been displaced from Ukraine on or after 24 February 2022 are eligible to be nominated. Only one proposal per individual researcher can be submitted. Current and former MSCA4Ukraine fellows are not eligible to be nominated.

Mentor: Any individual academic mentor can only support one application.
•
Disciplines: MSCA4Ukraine fellowships are open to all domains of research and innovation.
•
Duration: Fellowships will be awarded for a minimum of 6 months, up to a maximum of 24 months.
•
Value: Fellowship rates will be in line with those of Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Networks (p. 75) and MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships (p. 83) as specified in the Horizon Europe Work Programme 2021-2022 – Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions: https://marie-sklodowska-curie-actions.ec.europa.eu/sites/default/files…. Host organisations will receive the same monthly contribution of EUR 650 towards institutional management costs, and EUR 1,000 towards research, training and networking costs, per fellow, regardless of whether they host doctoral or postdoctoral fellows.

Timeframe:
•
12 June: Call information and call documents published. Terms of Reference for Applicants available on the MSCA4Ukraine website. Prospective applicants are advised to begin preparing their applications so they are ready for submission soon after the online portal opens.

24 June (14-15.30h CEST): Open Q&A webinar for potential applicants (2/2), no registration is required. Access link will be published at https://sareurope.eu/msca4ukraine/information-for-applicants/ shortly before the event.
•
5 August – 5 September (23.59h CEST): Online portal will be opened for submission of applications. Access link will be provided at https://sareurope.eu/msca4ukraine/information-for-applicants/. In case of a large number of applications a two-step evaluation process may be implemented.

September: Decision to carry out one- or two-step evaluation process, depending on the volume of applications received, will be communicated via the programme website.
Tentative timeframe (to be further defined based on the volume of applications received):
•
October 2024 – February 2025: Evaluation and selection process.
•
December 2024 (in case a two-stage evaluation process is being implemented): The outcomes of the first stage of the evaluation will be communicated.
•
March 2025: Fellowship offers.
•
April – June 2025: Expected start of the fellowships. In duly justified cases, decided on a case-by-case basis, a later start may be agreed.
•
May-November 2025: Applicants from the reserve list will be offered funding should any awarded fellowship offers be declined, until all available funds have been disbursed.
