Dormitory closure in the 2024/2025 academic year
Dear Students,
The renovation of the dormitories has been a significant focus for our organization in order to address the feedback we have received. The Authorities of the University have sought various forms of funding for this project. As the estimated costs amounted to 30 million PLN, surpassing the available financing options from the university resources, the National Recovery Plan appeared to be the most viable alternative.
The renovation of the student dormitories was included in the proposal submitted to the Ministry and it has now been clarified that only investments slated for completion in the near future will receive financial backing. As a result, a difficult decision has been made to temporarily close the dormitory ‘Bliźniak’ in the 2024/2025 academic year for a comprehensive and expedited refurbishment. All rooms will undergo renovation, including the installation of new bathrooms. The electrical and fire systems will also be upgraded. The renovation project is expected to be completed by September 2025, pending the selection of a qualified contractor. The Investment and Renovation Supervision Department is working intensively on preparing the tender documentation to ensure a timely and comprehensive refurbishment process.
This decision is expected to result in substantial positive improvements and a significant enhancement in the quality of life within our dormitories. We recognize that there may be challenges in the upcoming academic year as a result of this decision.
In the next few days, we will be distributing the Rector's Order detailing the revised criteria for obtaining a spot in 'Jubilatka' Student House. This information has been formulated in partnership with WMU Student Government. At the same time, we are actively exploring alternative housing options in various student residences in Wrocław.
We will continue to update you on any additional decisions and arrangements.
Best wishes,
Vice-Rector for Students and Educational Affairs
