  1. Zakładka Nauka
  • Unit profile:

- Cancer in children (biology, clinics, therapies, treatment results, complications).

- Cell therapies.

- Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

- Non-cancerous diseases in children.

- Clinical immunology: congenital and acquired immunodeficiencies.

- Metabolic diseases.

- General pediatrics.

- Diagnosis and treatment of solid tumors in children.

- Treatment of complications of oncological therapy in children.

- Conducting National Health Fund drug programs i.a. for the treatment of hemophilia A and B in children, iron overload in children, thrombocytopenia, neuroblastoma, biological therapies (CAR-T cell therapy, blinatumomab), treatment of graft versus host disease and many others.

- The Clinic undertakes activities aimed at optimizing the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and non-cancer blood diseases.

- Innovative methods of diagnosing and monitoring of the treatment of cancer are being gradually introduced, including: cytogenetic, molecular, for more precise stratification into risk groups and the use of a more specific, targeted treatment method.

- The immediate introduction of modern methods of diagnosis and treatment, as well as the rapid exchange of experience, is enabled by cooperation with 12 university and 6 non-university centers in the country, associated with the Polish Society of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology.

- Supportive treatment methods are constantly being improved, including the use of, among others: new antibiotics and antifungal drugs, which significantly reduces the number of severe complications and improves treatment results. Currently, over 70% of children with childhood cancer can be cured, and the introduction of new diagnostic and therapeutic methods aims to further improve the results of treatment of childhood cancer.

- Cooperation with leading research centers in Europe (including Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Universiteit Leiden).

  • Research topics:

- Optimization of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the case of relapse of acute lymphoblastic leukemia in children, especially the form resistant to conventional treatment.

- Individualization of busulfan dosage based on drug concentration determination

- Genetic diagnosis of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in children in Poland: improving the effectiveness of treatment through modern genetic techniques

- Analysis of the profile of selected cytokines in pediatric patients undergoing immunotherapy with blinatumomab or CAR-T cells in relation to potential complications and short and long-term treatment results

- Analysis of diagnostic and prognostic markers of kidney tumors in children

- Assessment of nutritional status including REDOX status in pediatric patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation

- Assessment of complement activation in children after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and its importance in determining the risk and early detection of transplant-associated thrombotic microangiopathy (TA-TMA)

- The role of the thrombomodulin system in blood coagulation disorders in children treated for acute lymphoblastic leukemia under the AIEOP program

- Examination of the oral microbiome in patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation

- Assessment of the occurrence of antibodies against coronaviruses in patients and staff in the Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation, Oncology and Pediatric Hematology

- Assessment of the prognostic and prognostic value of the expression level of ribosome biogenesis pathway genes (TP53, CMYC, FBL and NCL) in selected childhood cancers.

- Assessment of the safety and effectiveness of antifungal prophylaxis with posaconazole based on drug pharmacokinetics studies in children undergoing intensive chemotherapy and/or hematopoietic cell transplantation

- Preparation of lymphocytes with specific antiviral activity as a new method of cell therapy in children with life-threatening infections after bone marrow transplantation

- New markers of acute kidney injury in children undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation

- The importance of thiopurine methyltransferase polymorphism in the aspect of liver complications in children undergoing chemotherapy

- Sonoporation as a modern method of modulating the membranes of gastrointestinal cancer cells in anticancer therapy
