According to Order No. 109/XVI R/2023 of the Rector of the Wrocław Medical University, as of June 30, 2023, the Department of Trauma Surgery, along with its subordinate units: the Clinic of Trauma Surgery and Hand Surgery, and the Department of Sports Medicine, as well as the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology of the Musculoskeletal System for Adults and Children, along with its subordinate units: the Clinic of Orthopedics and Traumatology of the Musculoskeletal System for Adults and Children, and the Photographic Documentation Laboratory, are dissolved within the Faculty of Medicine.
Simultaneously, as of July 1, 2023, the Department of Orthopedics, Traumatology and Hand Surgery (polish: Katedra Ortopedii, Traumatologii Narządu Ruchu i Chirurgii Ręki) is established within the Faculty of Medicine, along with its subordinate units:
- Clinical Department of Orthopedics, Traumatology, and Hand Surgery (polish: Klinika Ortopedii, Traumatologii Narządu Ruchu i Chirurgii Ręki),
- Division of Sports Medicine (polish: Zakład Medycyny Sportowej).

Profile of the Division of Sports Medicine
The following projects are currently ongoing at the Division of Sports Medicine:
- Prevention, diagnosis, monitoring, and evaluation of treatment for the most common injuries and conditions in orthopedics, traumatology, and sports medicine.
- Exploring the potential use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in the treatment of extensor tendon enthesopathy of the forearm.
- Functional assessment of patients after surgical treatment of rotator cuff injuries in the shoulder.
- Clinical and comparative evaluation of arthroscopic treatment outcomes for cartilage chondromalacia in the knee joint.
- Comparison of the effects of hip joint endoprosthesis treatment with direct anterior access depending on the type of skin incision used.
- Return to sports after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction in the knee joint.
The staff of the Division of Sports Medicine conduct classes based at the Clinical Department of Orthopedics, Traumatology and Hand Surgery.
