Dr Mateusz Kowal is an assistant professor in the Physiotherapy Research Laboratory in the University Centre of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at the Faculty of Physiotherapy, Wroclaw Medical University. He is also the Vice Dean for Organization and Development of the Faculty of Physiotherapy.

His research, academic teaching, and professional practice as a physiotherapist focus on the development and use of objective methods to diagnose, monitor, and assess patients with musculoskeletal disorders using objective measurement tools. He is also interested in physiotherapy in orthopaedics, traumatology, sports medicine, and issues related to returning to sports after injury.

Main Scientific Achievements

  • Research concerning the gait of unilateral above-knee amputation patients due to non-vascular causes has been widely recognized. It has led to several original publications and formed the basis for the PhD of Mateusz's Ph.D. in 2015, making a substantial contribution to the field.
  • Several awards from the Rector of the Wroclaw Medical University for scientific activity (2021-2023).

Mateusz completed the JBI Comprehensive Systematic Review Training Program in Aberdeen, Scotland (2024).
