Dr hab. Aleksandra Królikowska is a university professor and heads the Physiotherapy Research Laboratory in the University Centre of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at the Faculty of Physiotherapy, Wroclaw Medical University. She is also the Proxy of the Rector of Wroclaw Medical University for Evidence-Based Healthcare in Wroclaw.
Her research, academic teaching, and professional activity as a physiotherapist are dedicated to advancing objective methods for diagnosing, monitoring, and evaluating patients with musculoskeletal disorders. She has a broad interest in physiotherapy within orthopedics, traumatology, and sports medicine, with a particular emphasis on facilitating the safe return to sports following injuries and long-term diseases. Her approach involves comprehensive rehabilitation strategies, integrating innovative techniques to optimize patient recovery and enhance overall musculoskeletal health.
Aleksandra’s work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, fostering partnerships between physiotherapists, orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine specialists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive care and achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Main Scientific Achievements
- 2024-2025 Primary Investigator in the bilateral project between Poland and Germany co-financed by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA). The project titled Advancements in Back to Sport Decision-Making for Patients after Knee Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction aims to analyze changes in the strength of the knee joint muscles of the uninvolved limb in this group of patients.
- Awards for scientific activity at two international conferences, precisely the European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery, and Arthroscopy Congress, ESSKA (2018) Glasgow, Scotland, and the European Federation of Sports Medicine Associations Congress, EFSMA (2017) Cascais, Portugal.
- The results of conducted studies presented at the most important international thematic conferences, such as conferences of ESSKA in Barcelona (2016), Glasgow (2018), Paris (2022), and Milan (2024); International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, ISAKOS in Shanghai (2017) and Boston (2023); EFSMA in Cascais (2017), International Federation of Sports Medicine in Ljubljana (2016), European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology in Hamburg (2024) and Global Evidence Summit in Prague (2024).
- Translation of the JBI Model into Polish language.
Aleksandra is highly involved in the activities of ESSKA, a leading organization dedicated to advancing sports medicine, knee surgery, and arthroscopy. In 2023, Aleksandra was selected to join the newly established Rehabilitation Committee, one of the four ESSKA scientific committees. She serves as vice-chair from 2024 to 2026 and is set to chair the committee from 2026 to 2028.
Moreover, Aleksandra was a member of a steering group of the Formal EU-US Meniscus Rehabilitation Consensus: An ESSKA-AOSSM-AASPT initiative. The goal of the consensus on which ESSKA, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), and the American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy (AASPT) worked together was to provide recommendations for rehabilitation in patients undergoing either conservative or surgical treatment for meniscus lesions or acute meniscus tears.
She has also been in the steering group of the consensus of ESSKA-EKA (European Knee Associates), European Hip Society (EHS), the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) and the Asia Pacific Arthroplasty Society (APAS), precisely the Expert Consensus on Fast-Track Hip and Knee Arthroplasty: EKA, EHS, AAHKS & APAS guidelines for optimized recovery pathways in joint replacement.
Aleksandra is also involved in activities focused on improving clinical studies in orthopedics, sports medicine, and rehabilitation. She co-authored a series of papers published in the official clinical journal of ESSKA, precisely Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, and Arthroscopy (KSSTA) and the Journal of Experimental Orthopaedics (JEO) in 2023-2025:

In addition to her academic practice, Aleksandra has many years of experience as a physiotherapist with patients with musculoskeletal disorders.
Aleksandra completed the JBI Comprehensive Systematic Review Training Program in Aberdeen, Scotland (2024).
