Polish Platform of Medical Research
Dr Michał Tkaczyszyn is a cardiology specialist at the Institute of Heart Diseases, University Hospital, Wroclaw, and a research and teaching assistant at the Division of Translational Cardiology and Clinical Registries, Institute of Heart Diseases, Wroclaw Medical University.
Throughout his clinical practice and research in cardiology, which began at the start of his university studies, he developed a deep interest in the pathophysiology and progression of heart failure syndrome. The latter clinical entity is not only characterized by high indices of morbidity and mortality but is also one of the leading medical and socio-economic challenges for healthcare systems worldwide.
During his clinical and research work in Wroclaw, he had the unique opportunity to participate in several research programs related to heart failure, from translational proof-of-concept projects to innovative clinical trials with drugs and devices. From 2014-2018, Michał was the Principal Investigator of a prestigious grant for young scientists (“PRELUDE”) funded by the National Science Center, where he investigated complex metabolic disorders as predictors of reduced skeletal muscle performance in men with heart failure. His main research interests are related to peripheral maladaptive mechanisms of heart failure, including skeletal and respiratory myopathy with subsequent reduced exercise tolerance, muscle wasting, frailty, cardiorenal dysfunction, anemia, iron deficiency, and altered hormonal status.
