Dr hab. Łukasz Rypicz is an assistant professor and heads the Department and Division of Public Health at Wroclaw Medical University. He is also the dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences.

His research, academic teaching, and professional practice as a public health specialist focus on patient and healthcare personnel safety and the use of ergonomics in healthcare. He is also interested in the safety of the pharmacotherapy process, alarm fatigue, and clinical risk.

Main Scientific Achievements

  • 2023-2024 Leader of the project Fatigue and sleep quality in medical personnel - a multicentre, international comparative study, which received funding under the competition announced by the Wroclaw Medical Univeristy. The project is carried out in collaboration with the Faculty of Health Studies, Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem (Czech Republic), Faculty of Health, Medical University, Bratislava (Slovakia) and the Department of Engineering, The Ohio State University, Ohio (USA).
  • 2022-2023 Project coordinator for Poland in the project titled The comparison of mental stress level and quality of life of nurses depending on provided type of health care and medical facility in the context of COVID-19. The project is carried out in collaboration with the Faculty of Health Studies, Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem (Czech Republic), and the Faculty of Health, Medical University, Bratislava (Slovakia).
  • The results of conducted studies presented at the most important international thematic conferences, such as the 20th Congress International Ergonomics Association – Creativity in Practice in Florence (2018); Global Experts Meeting on Frontiers in Nursing Education & Practice in Edinburgh (2019); An amicable network of Academical Medical Centres in Europe - AMiCE CEO Meeting in Wroclaw (2019); 3rd World Congress on Public Health and Health Care Management in Dubai (2019); Slips, Trips & Falls – Conference – A vision for the future, SRGS in Madrid (2020); IISE Annual Conference and Expo in New Orleans, Louisiana (2023).

Łukasz is involved in promoting a culture of patient and healthcare provider safety in the healthcare system. He coordinated the National Safe Pharmacotherapy Project 'PharmaSafety' (2019-2020), organized in collaboration with the Supreme Chamber of Nursing and Midwifery. The project aimed to identify risk factors that influence adverse events in the pharmacotherapy process. The 'PharmaSafety' project received honorary patronage from the Polish Minister of Health, as well as institutional patronage from the Clinical Risk Management and Patient Safety Centre of Tuscany (Italy), and the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre in Human Factors and Communication for Delivery of Safe and Quality Care. The project resulted in two publications:

As part of promoting patient and healthcare staff safety, two monographs on the subject have been produced, of which Łukasz is the scientific co-editor. The books are dedicated to medical students and healthcare professionals:
