Święto Nauki na Uniwersytecie Medycznym

Podczas obchodów Święta Uczelni 7 grudnia w Auli Leopoldina, wyróżnieni zostali przedstawiciele wszystkich filarów uczelni: naukowcy, klinicyści, dydaktycy, pracownicy administracji i studenci. Wśród nagrodzonych znaleźli się kierownik Katedry Zdrowia Populacyjnego dr hab. Katarzyna Zatońska, prof. UMW , która została wyróżniona w prestiżowym rankingu TOP 2% za największą liczbę cytowań, oraz za I miejsce w rankingu działalności naukowej z podziałem na pracownika WNoZ wraz z kierownikiem Zakładu Zdrowia Środowiskowego i Medycyny Pracy hab. Pawłem Gaciem, prof. UMW.

Statuetkę lidera dydaktyki, nagrodę przyznawaną przez studentów, otrzymały dr Barbara Grabowska i dr hab. Izabela Witczak z Zakładu Zdrowia Publicznego.

Nagroda za najlepsze doniesienie naukowe

Zespół Katedry otrzymał nagrodę za najlepsze doniesienie naukowe w sesji plakatowej podczas XVI Konferencji Naukowej Sekcji Prewencji i Epidemiologi PTK Kardiologia Prewencyjna, która odbyła się w dniach 17-18 listopada br.

ZOO Wrocław partnerem strategicznym budowania potencjału zdrowotnego seniorów

Wśród laureatów 12. edycji Miejskiego Programu Wsparcia Partnerstwa Szkolnictwa Wyższego i Nauki oraz Sektora Aktywności Gospodarczej "MOZART" znalazł się projekt pod nazwą „ZOO Wrocław partnerem strategicznym budowania potencjału zdrowotnego seniorów” pod kierownictwem dr Dagmary Gaweł- Dąbrowskiej z Zakładu Zdrowia Publicznego.

W tym roku granty otrzymały partnerstwa naukowców i przedsiębiorców, których projekty zostały ocenione jako najciekawsze i najbardziej dopracowane, a współpraca między naukowcem i przedsiębiorstwem wpłynie pozytywnie na rozwój wrocławskiego rynku pracy, przede wszystkim poprzez stworzenie produktów i usług, a efekty projektu będą oddziaływać na macierzyste środowisko pracy naukowca. Wzięto również pod uwagę oczekiwany wpływ na długofalowy rozwój współpracy biznesu i nauki w mieście, a także na poprawę jakości życia mieszkańców Wrocławia.

Projekt będzie realizowany przez 12 miesięcy, począwszy od października br.

Program Mozart realizowany jest od 2012 roku, w tym czasie dofinansowanie na realizację swoich pomysłów otrzymało ponad 300 partnerstw naukowo-biznesowych, których praca zaowocowała powstaniem wielu nowatorskich produktów i usług.

Pink October - dbaj o siebie!

24 października br na Uniwersytecie Ekonomicznym we Wrocławiu odbyło się wyjątkowe wydarzenie Pink October – dbaj o siebie! - event dla pracowników oraz studentów, którego celem było zwiększenie świadomości dotyczącej zdrowia oraz profilaktyki.  

Podczas wydarzenia uczestnicy mieli okazję wziąć udział w ciekawych prelekcjach, które dotyczyły m.in.: profilaktyki, odporności, stresu, edukacji w zakresie zdrowia, wsparcia psychologicznego oraz  odpowiedniego odżywiania w chorobach. Ponadto wydarzeniem wspierającym było różowe miasteczko, w którym można było wykonać bezpłatne badania – cytologię, badanie gęstości kości, badanie piersi a także badanie znamion. Ponadto specjaliści przeprowadzali szkolenie, jak prawidłowo badać piersi oraz jądra.  

Wydarzenie odbyło się pod patronatem Rektora Uniwersytetu Medycznego we Wrocławiu, wzięli w nim udział Kierownik Katedry Zdrowia Populacyjnego prof. Katarzyna Zatońska oraz Prezes Polskiego Towarzystwa Zdrowia Publicznego prof. Andrzej Fal, którzy wystąpili w panelu „Jak rozwijać kompetencje zdrowotne, czyli dlaczego ważna jest skuteczna edukacja i profilaktyka.” Tematy które poruszano dotyczyły odpowiedzialności za własne zdrowie, skutecznej motywacji, edukacji i badań profilaktycznych. Rozmawiano także o kosztach profilaktyki, roli badań populacyjnych oraz edukacji zdrowotnej.

Ostatni panel podczas którego uczestniczki dzieliły się osobistymi historiami „Jak żyć w trakcie i po?” poprowadziła dr Jolanta Grzebieluch.
Wydarzenie zostało zorganizowane przy wsparciu Dolnośląskiego Centrum Onkologii, Pulmunologii i Hepatologii oraz Fundacji Kochasz Dopilnuj.

Ranking jednostek UMW

18 października został opublikowany ranking jednostek UMW, przygotowany na podstawie Karty oceny wewnętrznej za lata 2021-2022. Obejmuje on ocenę poziomu prowadzonej działalności naukowej oraz ocenę efektów finansowych badań naukowych i prac rozwojowych.

Nasza Katedra znalazła sie na drugim miejscu na Wydziale Nauk o Zdrowiu.

Światowy Dzień Zdrowia Psychicznego

W światowym dniu zdrowia psychicznego dr Iwona Mazur z Zakładu Zdrowia Publicznego była gościem Katarzyny Sudnik w Telewizji ECHO24. Rozmowa dotyczyła m.in.znaczenia wsparcia środowiskowego dla osób w kryzysie psychicznym oraz edukacji oraz roli absolwentów zdrowia publicznego w tym procesie.

Polskie Zdrowie 2.0

W dniu 18 września br. w Polskiej Akademii Nauk w Warszawie odbyła się konferencja podsumowującej projekt Polskie Zdrowie 2.0. Uczestnicy wydarzenia organizowanego przez Komitet Zdrowia
Publicznego PAN przedstawili projekt Polskie Zdrowie 2.0.

Projekt powstał w 2022 r. z inicjatywy Komitetu Zdrowia Publicznego
PAN, który działa w ramach Wydziału V Nauk Medycznych
PAN.

Do przygotowania 14 policy briefs zaproszono 64 polskich ekspertów
- naukowców i doświadczonych praktyków, uczestników Systemu Opieki
Zdrowia (SOZ) w Polsce.

Uniwersytet Medyczny we Wrocławiu reprezentuje Mariola Dwornikowska-Dąbrowska z Katedry Zdrowia Populacyjnego, która została zaproszona przez Profesora Tomasza
Zdrojewskiego do redakcji i tworzenia jednego z 14 obszarów.

Projekt koncentruje analizie zdrowia publicznego, jego powiązania z
medycyną naprawczą, otoczeniem społecznym i gospodarką. Pełny
tytuł projektu „Polskie Zdrowie" 2.0 brzmi: „Ocena wybranych
elementów systemu zdrowia w Polsce w oparciu o dowody naukowe i
dobre praktyki innych krajów."

- Jak powiedział Profesor T. Zdrojewski „Celem projektu jest
edukacja i upowszechnianie nauki. Naszą grupą docelową są polscy
politycy, dziennikarze i wszyscy profesjonaliści zajmujący się
zdrowiem. Zależy nam także na dotarciu do szerokiej opinii
publicznej. Sama inicjatywa realizowana jest w okresie
przedwyborczego przygotowywania programów dotyczących systemu ochrony zdrowia w
Polsce przez główne podmioty polityczne. Liczymy na wykorzystanie

Realizacja programu PURE doceniona

Zespół Katedry Zdrowia Populacyjnego pod kierownictwem prof. Katarzyny Zatońskiej  i prof. Andrzeja Szuby został doceniony i nagrodzony za doskonałe zrealizowanie 3 etapu realizacji programu PURE. Jako jedyni spośród wszystkich zespołów biorących udział w projekcie, nasi wrocławscy badacze w 100 % zrealizowali we wskazanym terminie wszystkie działania zaplanowane  w tym etapie.

We are expanding international cooperation

On 19-23 June, at the invitation of Dr. Dagmara Gaweł-Dąbrowska, acting Head of the Division of Public Health, we are hosting Dr. Monika Sawhney, Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, NC, USA, at the Department of Population Health of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Dr. Monika Sawhney is the director of the Bachelor of Public Health programme at Marshall University, Assistant Professor and visiting professor at the Public Health Foundation of India and the Global Institute of Public Health in India.

Dr. Monica Sawhney's professional and research interests are primarily the reduction in health inequalities and the associated disease burden due to non-communicable diseases and their interactions with communicable diseases, particularly among disadvantaged people in hard-to-reach areas and those facing health inequalities.

Dr. Sawhney has experience in managing and administration of public health projects in many European, African and Asian countries.

Dr. Monika Sawhney will meet students of Medicine and will prepare seminars for students of Public Health.

This is Dr. Sawhney's second visit to the University and another step towards establishing permanent cooperation, not only didactic but also scientific.

Dr. Mark Parascandola a guest at the Department of Population Health

On 16 June, the University will host Dr. Mark Parascandola (PhD, MPH), who is a recognised expert in epidemiology in the Tobacco Control Research Branch of the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences at the National Cancer Institute (NCI).

Dr. Parascandola obtained the PhD title from Cambridge University and the title of MA in Public Health in the scope of Epidemiology from the School of Hygiene and Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Parascandola also completed the Cancer Prevention Fellowship at the NCI. He is the author of many scientific articles on tobacco prevention, tobacco control policy and epidemiological research methodology. He performed the function of the editor of the NCI/WHO report "The Economics of Tobacco and Tobacco Control (2016)", the NCI/CDC report "Smokeless Tobacco and Public Health: A Global Perspective (2014)", and the two-volume encyclopaedia "Tobacco: Its History and Culture (2005)". He was also a member of the IARC Working Group for Methods for Evaluating Tobacco Control Policies in 2007. As Programme Director at NCI, Dr. Parascandola currently supervises a research group focused on global tobacco control, other forms of tobacco use, and implementation science. Dr. Parascandola was a researcher and advisor on tobacco control, air pollution and health at the U.S. Embassies in Beijing, China, and Warsaw.

Special event for high school students as part of the #zbudujzdrowiezumw project (look after health with Wroclaw Medical University)

On Monday 12 June at 10:00 a.m., another meeting was held at the Scientific Medical Information Centre at ul. 2-6 Marcinkowskiego (room 209) as part of the project "Zbuduj zdrowie z UMW" (look after health with Wroclaw Medical University).

We hosted high school students from Wieluń (LO1) and Wrocław (Liceum Ogólnokształcące nr 7 we Wrocławiu), for whom we prepared lectures on health, a visit to the Medical Simulation Center and a field game with medical riddles.

Dr. Alicja Basiak - Rasała presented a lecture "Principles of healthy eating and the effect of diet on health" and Dr. Janina Kulińska gave a lecture "Health in a digitised world".

Dr. Paweł Gawłowski spoke about the principles of first aid and safe holidays. 

The educational offer of the University, especially public health as the direction of the future, was presented by students Aleksandra Tylus and Miłosz Lipieta. A representative from the International Federation of Medical Students Associations talked about what one does at university apart from studying.

Then, the students visited the Medical Simulation Centre and took part in a field game promoting a healthy lifestyle (Prozdrowotna Gra Terenowa).

All participants received commemorative gadgets of Wrpclaw Medical University.

Dr. Izabela Witczak obtained the PhD title

On 28 February, the Discipline Council of the Faculty of Health Sciences granted Dr. Izabela Witczak, Assistant Professor in the Division of Public Health, the PhD title in medicine and health sciences, in the discipline of health sciences. Congratulations!

#zbudujzdrowiezumw - commencement of the project

On 6 March, the official launch of the project "Zbuduj zdrowie z UMW" (look after health with Wroclaw Medical University) took place, implemented by the Department of Population Health and the Department of Physical Education and Sport of Wroclaw Medical University. The project is addressed to all employees and students of the University. The purpose of the project is to promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage undertaking physical activity as well as to promote proper nutrition and limit addictions. Everyone is invited to participate in the project.

Dr. Alicja Basiak-Rasała from the Department of Population Health a participant in the "52nd Ten-Day Teaching Seminar in Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention"

On 11-22 December 2022, the "52nd Ten-Day Teaching Seminar in Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention" was held in Kochi, India, organised by the International Society of Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention (ISCEP) in cooperation with the World Heart Federation. Dr. Alicja Basiak-Rasała, an assistant at the Department of Population Health at the Faculty of Health Sciences, was one of the persons qualified this year. 

The originators of the ISCEP trainings were Prof. Geoffrey Rose, Prof. Jerry and Rose Stamler and Richard Remington. The ISCEP training has been organised periodically since 1968. The purpose of ISCEP is to create an international group of experts in the field of epidemiological research methodology and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Out of the many applicats, the organising committee accepts only approximately 36 participants from around the world each year.

The intensive 10-day training covers issues in the field of epidemiology of civilisation diseases, research methodology and biostatistics. Each working day consists of lectures and workshops in small, international groups, the task of which is to develop their own research project by the end of the training. The great value of the ISCEP training is also establishing international contacts that are the basis for future scientific projects.

The training participants have the opportunity to learn from outstanding scientists and epidemiologists. The lecturers were, among others, Prof. Kay-Tee Khaw (Cambridge University), Prof. Neil Poulter (Imperial College London), Prof. D. Prabhakaran (Centre for Chronic Disease Control, India), Prof. Shrikant Bangdiwala (McMaster University, Canada), Prof. George Howard (University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA) and Prof. Salim Yusuf (McMaster University; Population Health Research Institute, Canada).

Science Day at Wroclaw Medical University

This year, the celebration of Science Day at Wroclaw Medical University was full of awards and prizes, which were given to employees in various categories including Lifetime Achievement and 2021 Achievement. The winners of the scientific ranking of units and the publication competition were also awarded.

Among the winners were employees of our Department and the individual award went to Prof. Katarzyna Zatońska, Head of the Department of Population Health.

Po trzech latach przerwy Polskie Towarzystwo Zdrowia Publicznego organizuje swój VI Kongres, w tym roku wspólnie z II Konferencją Katedry Zdrowia Populacyjnego Uniwersytetu Medycznego we Wrocławiu. W ostatnich trzech lat sytuacja w zdrowiu publicznym na świecie przeszła nie ewolucję, a prawdziwą rewolucję. Dotyczy to priorytetów działania, sposobów i możliwości finansowania, jak i transformacji świadomości dotyczącej realności zagrożeń. Pełna analiza tych zmian zdecydowanie wykracza poza możliwości i ramy jednego kongresu, ale w programie pod ogólnym tytułem „Zdrowie publiczne - finansowanie vs zagrożenia” szczególną uwagę przykładamy do kilku elementów. Ponieważ po pandemii na czoło wydają się wysuwać: niskie finansowanie opieki zdrowotnej przy niewłaściwym zagospodarowaniu już dostępnych środków, zmniejszenie dynamiki wydłużenia wieku osiąganego w dobrej jakości życia (przejściowo po pandemii doszło nawet do jego skrócenia) oraz uwidocznione przez COVID-19 luki w zabezpieczeniach krajowych i współpracy międzynarodowej w zakresie opieki zdrowotnej, po pierwsze postaramy się stworzyć bilans otwarcia, taką fotografię stanu obecnego – jesień 2023. Przedstawimy stan zdrowia społeczeństwa polskiego, sytuację finansową systemu ochrony zdrowia w Polsce na tle innych krajów i pozycję opieki zdrowotnej we wspólnych działaniach Unii Europejskiej.

Po drugie, zamierzamy przeanalizować wpływ czynników behawioralnych, szerzej mówiąc: stylu życia, na zdrowie społeczeństwa, a w konsekwencji na rosnące występowanie nieinfekcyjnych chorób przewlekłych (NCD). Oprócz faktu, że NCD są podstawowym czynnikiem zgonów przedwczesnych w UE i OECD, ich występowanie, a szczególnie współwystępowanie w trakcie pandemii okazało się także największym czynnikiem ryzyka zachorowania, hospitalizacji i zgonu z powodu COVID-19. W okresie popandemicznym, ze względu także na starzenie się społeczeństwa, NCD są ponadto jednym z czynników stymulujących stały wzrost kosztów opieki zdrowotnej oraz źródłem coraz wyższych kosztów pośrednich. Biorąc te dane pod uwagę chcemy podkreślić, że większy nacisk na profilaktykę (przede wszystkim pierwotną, czyli edukację zdrowotną) jest nie tylko uzasadniony medycznie i etycznie, ale także opłacalny z punktu widzenia ekonomiki zdrowia.

Po trzecie, bogatsi w wiedzę popandemiczną spojrzymy na zmianę podstawowych czynników ryzyka zagrażających naszemu życiu oraz zdrowiu zarówno w kontekście długoterminowym, jak i krótkoterminowym. Postaramy się zestawić działania profilaktyczne w obrębie piramidy dla chorób infekcyjnych i nieinfekcyjnych.

I wreszcie, po czwarte – przedstawimy zagrożenia dla zdrowia publicznego wynikające ze zmian w środowisku i z ruchów migracyjnych. Obydwie te grupy zagrożeń stanowią niezwykle szybko rozwijające się ryzyka nakładające się na dotychczasowy paradygmat. Szczególnie w tym kontekście chcemy też pokazać rolę polskich i międzynarodowych badań w zakresie zdrowia publicznego.

Podobnie jak w ubiegłych latach zaprosiliśmy do udziału w Kongresie, i Konferencji, przedstawicieli siostrzanych towarzystw zdrowia publicznego z krajów UE, władze międzynarodowych organizacji, m.in. EUPHA, ASPHER, przedstawicieli Czerwonego Krzyża i WHO. Ponadto w Kongresie wezmą udział przedstawiciele Parlamentu, a także JST – osoby odpowiedzialne za politykę zdrowotną i szeroko pojęte zdrowie publiczne.

Mamy głębokie przekonanie, że jak co roku będzie to istotne wydarzenie w zdrowiu publicznym. Zapraszamy serdecznie do Wrocławia w dniach 29-30 listopada 2023, zaczynamy 29 o godzinie 9.30 w Auli Wydziału Farmacji UM we Wrocławiu przy ul. Borowskiej 211.

International Hybrid Conference of the Department of Population Health "Population Health at the Time of Crisis" October 13-14, 2022, Wrocław

The 1st International Conference "Population Health at the Time of Crisis" organized by the Department of Population Health of the Medical University of Piastów Śląskich in Wrocław will take place on 13-14 October 2022. The event has been planned in hybrid mode and is addressed to representatives of the following specialties: physicians, nurses, public health specialists and managers of hospitals and other health care facilities.

The aim of the Conference is to present and disseminate scientific achievements, including the latest research and development results, from the field of population health and actions taken in times of crisis, which is undoubtedly the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. The event will also identify new directions of scientific research in the face of dynamic challenges in the country and the world.

Plenary sessions will initiate discussions on the following topics:

• A look at population health security during the COVID-19 pandemic;
• Human rights in times of armed crises;
• New directions in looking at environmental health;
• Infectious diseases as an ever-present public health challenge;
• Population-based research;
• Patient safety in a health care system crisis;

Rules for Submission of Abstracts

We invite you to submit abstracts for the 1st International Conference "Population Health at the Time of Crisis". All qualified papers will be presented at the event on October 13-14, 2022 in Wrocław, Poland. Topics of submitted papers should cover the following areas:

• Civilization diseases
• Epidemiology
• Environmental Health
• Quality and safety in health care
• Health promotion and prevention
• Management and organization in health care
• Human rights in times of armed crises
• The role of NGOs in crisis

The abstract should include:

• title in Polish and English,
• name of author(s),
• the full affiliation of the author(s),
• Degree/title, first letter of first name and last name of supervisor,
• Name and email of presenting author.

The abstract should be structured as follows:

• admission,
• purpose of work,
• material and methods,
• results,
• discussion and conclusions.

When using abbreviations, it is necessary to provide the full wording on first use. Keywords (3-6) should be given in English and Polish according to MeSH catalogs (Medical Subject Headings Index Medicus). Keywords cannot be a repetition of the title of the paper.

Volume of the abstract: max. 400 words.

The deadline for submission of abstracts is August 31, 2022.   

Authors will be notified of acceptance of the abstract and the form of presentation of the paper by September 15, 2022.

International Hybrid Conference of the Department of Population Health
"Population health in the face of crisis"
30 November -1 December 2022, Wrocław

The 1st International Hybrid Conference 'Population Health in the Face of Crisis', organised by the Department of Population Health of the Piastów Śląskich Medical University in Wrocław and the Polish Society of Public Health, will be held on 30 November -1 December 2022. The event has been planned in a hybrid mode and is addressed to representatives of the following specialities: doctors, nurses, public health specialists and managers of hospitals and other health care institutions.

The aim of the Conference is to present and disseminate scientific advances, including the latest research and development results, from the field of population health and action in times of crisis, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. The event will also identify new research directions in the face of dynamic national and global challenges.

Participation in the conference is free of charge.

Plenary sessions will initiate discussions on the following topics:

• Looking at population health security in times of COVID-19 pandemic;
• Human rights in times of armed crises;
• New directions in looking at environmental health;
• Infectious diseases as an ever-present public health challenge;
• Population-based research;
• Patient safety in times of health system crisis;
• The role of NGOs in crisis.

Due to the large number of abstracts submitted for evaluation by the Scientific Committee, the authors will be notified of the acceptance of the abstract by 14 November 2022.

All accepted papers will be presented as electronic posters available on the Conference website.

Abstracts in English will be published in the Journal of Health Inequalities after acceptance.

In addition, once all the requirements according to the publishing process have been met and positive reviews have been obtained, it is possible to publish the full paper in the Journal of Health Inequalities. Publication in the journal is free of charge - MEiN score - 100 pts.
